Logline

A cinéma verité looks at the most vulnerable caught up in the front lines of the Russo-Ukrainian War and the volunteers of an evacuation team, putting their lives on the line to save them.

Synopsis

A vérité-style documentary delving into the plight of the most vulnerable amidst Russia’s aggression on Ukraine, alongside the courageous volunteers of an evacuation team who risk their lives to save them. The film unfolds through two parallel narratives: it captures the courageous acts of a volunteer evacuation team in Eastern Ukraine, led by the determined and resilient Anton, as they confront the brutal realities of daily warfare to rescue those in danger. Simultaneously, it portrays the wartime routines and unexpected bond between two elderly women, pragmatic Zinaida and dreamy Taisia, who have chosen to remain in their homes in the now liberated Chernihiv region. While Anton and his team navigate the visceral horrors of conflict and the reluctance of many to evacuate, Zinaida and Taisia employ various acts of resilience – from prayer and poetry to clandestine intelligence reports – to support the Ukrainian military effort.
